Mental Health Awareness

Apr 23, 2014
About 57.7 million Americans suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year. Mental illnesses include, but are not limited to: depression, PTSD, panic, anxiety, OCD, social phobias, eating disorders, and some forms of stress. Are you or is someone you know affected by mental health issues?

Did you know we can help ourselves and loved ones? Because of the stigma associated with mental illness, many people are too ashamed or embarrassed to seek the help they need for themselves or their loved ones. National Mental Health Awareness Month, celebrated in May since 1949, is a time for us work together to break through that stigma. Now is the time to express compassion for those who struggle with mental health issues and draw attention to the proven methods that can help change their lives for the better.

  3. Funny, not really, sadly: as I catch up on my blog reads, I have had 4 people attempt or succeed at suicide and another that was cutting. 4 of the 5 were <30 years old. Heart-breaking that there is so little hope, and so little help. Awareness matters !!

  5. Teenagers and young adults often find themselves in need of mental health services because of substance abuse, inherited mental problems, and Attention Deficit Disorders (ADD).
The latter would be staffed by personnel who could explain the various issued surrounding metal health in layman's terms to clients and their families.
